The Living Mountain

Sunday 19 November 2024

4 – 6pm

Touring for the first time as a trio of musicians, The Living Mountain features music performed by Jenny Sturgeon (vocals, guitar, keys), Alice Allan (cello) and Grant Anderson (bass, keys, samples). Inspired by Scottish writer Nan Shepherd’s celebrated book of the same name, this audio-visual performance is accompanied by film curated by Shona Thomson; including stunning imagery from Scotland The Big Picture, filmmakers Robyn Spice and Hannah Bailey and archive film from National Library of Scotland Moving Image Archive.

Devised by musician Jenny Sturgeon, the project explores Nan’s writing, the Cairngorms and human connections with the wild through lyrical, melodic and visual interpretation. The meditative experience of the combined audio and imagery are a soothing and poignant exploration of what it means to connect with a landscape and to find a sense of place.
