Deer Stalking Experience
Join our expert deer stalking team for a behind-the-scenes look at how deer management works on a rewilding estate. Managing deer numbers is essential to restoring balance to the landscape at Dundreggan, enabling natural regeneration to take place, and promoting better health for the deer themselves.
Setting off before sunrise, you’ll head out into the estate on foot, on the hunt for one of the three deer species present at Dundreggan: red deer, roe deer or sika deer.
Our stalkers are highly skilled and experienced. You’ll accompany them through every aspect of the stalk, from finding the deer, to shooting, then processing the carcass for the healthy meat to enter the food chain. Though you won’t shoot the deer yourself, this is as close as you can get to deer stalking and understanding how deer behave and move through the landscape.
Tour details
- You will arrive on the first day and enjoy a comfortable overnight stay in our accommodation An Spiris. There are a number of excellent places to eat in nearby Invermoriston, Fort Augustus and Drumnadrochit – make sure to check their autumn/winter opening times and book in advance.
- On the second day, you will depart early in the morning with the ranger and return in time for brunch in An Nead café.
- Maximum two people per tour.
- A good degree of physical fitness and patience are required. This experience involves several hours out on the estate, with a considerable amount of walking on steep and uneven, pathless terrain. Appropriate clothing to blend in with the landscape and keep you warm is essential. A full kit list will be provided.
- Binoculars will be provided, but you may wish to bring your own.
- As the date approaches, we’ll be in touch with specific instructions about what to bring.
- Due to the nature of the landscape and wild animals, we cannot guarantee that you will see wildlife or deer. However, this will be a highly informative and exclusive experience during which you’ll see areas many members of the public never see, and learn first hand from our brilliant team.
